  • Legal torture in the U.S.

I had my first mammogram today. Though it was not nearly as painful as I had been led to believe it would be, it still wasn't exactly "fun" as the older woman waiting in the lobby said she thought they were. I honestly couldn't tell if she was being facetious or not. I was not really caring, the big surprise for me was the bruising, that's great. Of course the most traumatic part came from inside my own head, I kept thinking about that scene in Weeds when Valerie puts Nancy's breast in the mammography machine and leaves the room.

I'm still probably at least a year late in getting it. Especially given my hereditary risk factors. Now I am a bit paranoid waiting for results. Hopefully, they will be better than the results from my dentist x-ray this morning (I have a cavity, it's a tiny one, but still).

Anyway, if you want a PSA about mammograms, you can go here. As for me, I am indulging in a mid-afternoon glass of wine, to quote alcoholics and ad execs everywhere, "It's five o'clock somewhere."

  • *raises a glass of Shiraz*  I'll drink to your healthy chest.

  • Enjoy the wine! I've never had a mammogram but i can't imagine it being all that much fun. Someone the other day on  xanga said something about them thinking that it sounds like something one should receive in the mail. it cracked me up.

  • Yeah, a friend of mine once suggested that similar testing be done for testicular cancer--just to be fair, y'know?

  • @SladeTheGreyFox - I don't know if I should be ashamed or proud that this is not the first toast I've received on that account.

@MissPaz - I suggested the very same to my father who thought I was being whimpy about the mammogram.

@X_naomi_X - I do get my results via mail...actually it made me thing of the old Steve Martin SNL's with the land shark "candygram" easily becomes "mammogram"

  • Ugh, I'm so not looking forward, and I know I'm due. Not going to happen until I get insurance, though.

  • 1. do we watch all the same shows??  Saving Grace.. Carnival?
    2. i was at the doctor all morning too...  migraines are kicking my ass.
    3. "It's five o'clock somewhere" is also a great alan jackson/jimmy buffet song
    4. I will drink to a female's healthy chest any time... any place... but I am just different that way. *wink

  • @aviran -  1. Yep, but I'm usually a season behind unless they are on Hulu (no cable, and thanks for reminding me I never saw the last season of Carnival)
    2. Have you tried acupuncture?
    3. I love Jimmy Buffet (and Alan Jackson reminds me of my lost year and a half in Texarkana)
    4. I will too, but possibly for different reasons (losing mom to cancer sucked)

  • @PunkDiva - 1. you gotta see the 2nd (last) season!
2.Yes, it didn't seem to help me much.  I use pressure points to try and help relieve the pain. I've even been able to bring down the throbbing by changing the way I breath when it first hits.  Maybe I need to try a different acupuncturist?
    4. That is a pain I don't even like to think about...
